KH Re:coded Early Game Guide – Command Synthesis Priorities

Your first synthesis priority in Kingdom Hearts Re:coded is simple: get Fira as soon as you arrive in Traverse Town. Destiny Islands hands you a Fire Edge at the end of the world, and combining it with Fire the moment you land in Traverse Town gives you a meaningful magic upgrade before the first real fights begin. Everything else in the early game builds on that foundation.

Starting Commands

At the very beginning of the game you choose one of three weapons and give up one of the remaining two. Your two starting commands are determined by this choice. There are no universal starting commands.

Choose Give Up Starting Commands
Sword Rod Quick Blitz, Cure
Sword Shield Quick Blitz, Round Blitz
Rod Sword Fire, Cure
Rod Shield Fire, Sliding Dash
Shield Sword Round Blitz, Fire
Shield Rod Round Blitz, Rising Strike

If you have not started yet, giving up the Sword is widely recommended. Both Rod and Shield paths that drop the Sword give you Cure or Fire immediately, which are far more useful early than the physical options the Sword provides.

🏝️ Destiny Islands

Destiny Islands is a short tutorial world. Your starting commands depend on the weapon choices you make at the beginning of the game, so synthesis may or may not be possible here. The important thing is the reward at the end: a Fire Edge. Save it for Traverse Town.

🏙️ Traverse Town

New commands available: Quick Blitz, Blizzard, Round Blitz (and others depending on your starting choices)

Synthesis begins here. Use the Fire Edge from Destiny Islands immediately, then start building out your elemental and physical options.

Ingredients Result Why it matters Try it
Fire + Fire Edge Fira Your first meaningful magic upgrade, available immediately on arrival thanks to the Fire Edge from Destiny Islands Try Synthesis
Fire + Quick Blitz Fire Edge Replaces the Fire Edge spent on Fira and keeps one in reserve for future chains Try Synthesis
Blizzard + Quick Blitz Blizzard Edge Ice-enhanced physical attack that feeds into Blizzara and further ice combos Try Synthesis
Quick Blitz + Rising Strike Blizzard Edge Alternative Blizzard Edge route if you have Rising Strike from your starting deck Try Synthesis

Fira opens up synthesis paths for Firaga and several combo commands later. Cure has not been confirmed as available in Traverse Town yet. Once you find it, prioritize Rising Strike (Quick Blitz + Cure) and Cura (Slow + Cure) immediately.

🐇 Wonderland

New commands available: Thunder, Slow, Aerial Sweep

Thunder adds a third damage type to your toolkit, and Slow is weak as a battle command but valuable as a synthesis ingredient. Push all three base elements forward here.

Ingredients Result Why it matters Try it
Thunder + Quick Blitz Thunder Edge Thunder-based melee attack that feeds into Thundara and chain combos Try Synthesis
Blizzard + Fire Blizzara Upgrades Blizzard using commands you already have, with no Cure required Try Synthesis
Thunder + Fire Thundara Upgrades Thunder for free using Fire, with strong AoE potential Try Synthesis
Slow + Cure Cura Converts a weak status spell into one of the best heals available at this point in the game Try Synthesis

The Blizzard + Fire and Thunder + Fire routes are the most efficient syntheses in Wonderland because they cost no Cure. Keep Cure available for Rising Strike and Cura rather than spending it on magic upgrades that have cheaper elemental alternatives.

⚡ Olympus Coliseum

New commands available: Strike Raid, Air Spiral

Strike Raid immediately multiplies your options. Combined with any base element it produces a ranged elemental throw, and those throws feed directly into higher-tier synthesis chains later.

Ingredients Result Why it matters Try it
Fire + Strike Raid Fire Raid Ranged fire throw, useful for enemies you cannot safely close on Try Synthesis
Blizzard + Strike Raid Blizzard Raid Ice ranged throw that also feeds into Blizzaga synthesis later Try Synthesis
Thunder + Strike Raid Thunder Raid Thunder ranged throw and a stepping stone toward Thundaga Try Synthesis
Aero + Strike Raid Aero Raid Pairs with Aero Edge to unlock Aerora, an underused element worth investing in early Try Synthesis

By the end of Olympus Coliseum you should have Fira, Blizzara, and Thundara for magic; elemental Edge commands for physical-magic hybrids; Cura for healing; and the Raid variants for ranged coverage. That deck carries you comfortably through the next several worlds.

Why You Should Level Commands Before Synthesizing

Every command earns Command Points (CP) passively just by being installed in your deck when you defeat enemies. You do not need to actively use it. As CP accumulates the command levels up, becoming stronger and dealing more damage up to a maximum of level 100.

When you synthesize two commands, the result inherits a level head-start based on how leveled the ingredients were. Two level 1 ingredients produce a level 1 result. Higher-level ingredients can produce a result that starts noticeably higher, reducing the grind on the new command.

There is also a chance of earning an Overspec when using leveled ingredients: a special bonus on the result such as a faster gauge fill rate, reduced reload time, or bonus starting levels. Overspecs are more likely with higher-level ingredients.

The practical takeaway is to let commands sit in your deck for a world or two before committing them to synthesis, especially before expensive endgame recipes like Firaga, Curaga, or Aeroga.

Where to Go Next

Once you have the above covered, the next upgrade tier is the -ga spells: Firaga (Fira + Heat Storm), Blizzaga (Ice Dive + Blizzara), and Thundaga (Thundara + Spark Storm). Getting Curaga (Heat Dive + Cura) should also be a priority once Heat Dive is within reach. Every command you synthesize now is a potential ingredient for something stronger later.

Tips

  • Never discard Cure. It is an ingredient in Rising Strike, Fira, Blizzara, Thundara, and Cura. Keep spares whenever possible.
  • Use cross-element routes (Blizzard + Fire, Thunder + Fire) to upgrade magic without spending Cure when you need it elsewhere.
  • Strike Raid is worth picking up purely to unlock the Raid variants. You do not need to equip it after synthesizing.
  • Slow is a weak battle command but an excellent synthesis ingredient. Convert it to Cura as soon as you can.
